The Reina Sofia Center of Adolescents and Youth is set up on the basis that the young people and adolescents hold “the future key” of our societies. It is necessary to know their attitude and behavior, their values and potentiality, their vital trajectory or the present challenges they take on, in order to formulate a policy, programs and services that could respond properly to the needs of these group and the society in general. Likewise it is necessary to spread this knowledge to the society in order to make it more conscious of the realities, the risks and the opportunities; the role of the social mediators, who work with a target population, and strengthening the mediators´ network role.
The Center is part of the FAD. FAD has been working for 25 years in drug addiction prevention and its derivative problems, also in implementing educational strategies for children, adolescents and youth.
FAD also has extensive experience in promoting research related to youth drug consumption and other associated topics like social values, new technologies, social commitment, sex, family relations or education. Approaching these issues has emerged as the rational evolution of reformulating the ways to analyze and interfere in social dynamics where FAD has assisted: from the attention focused on drug consumption to the consumers´ analysis in a specific context, to a broader approach towards the risks that affect the young people and adolescents. This trajectory has led to a confirmation of the current need to work specifically on increasing the knowledge and research on youth and adolescents groups.
